How to choose a moving company in Valencia: 10 questions to ask before you book

A mover in a navy polo shakes hands with a couple beside a white van on a palm-lined street in Valencia before the move

To choose a moving company in Valencia, always check the same five things: get a written quote that lists what is included, find out who will actually do the transport and their tax details, confirm you will get an invoice with IVA (Spanish VAT), ask about insurance and about when you pay. If a company cannot answer these clearly, or wants the full amount before starting, keep looking.

Below are the 10 questions in a table, what a good answer looks like and what should make you hesitate, the most common red flags and how MoveValencia works.

What should you ask a moving company before booking?

These ten questions cover almost every problem that shows up on moving day. Ask them in writing (WhatsApp or email) so there is a record.

The sections below go into the questions that cause the most doubts.

What should a moving quote include?

A useful quote says what is being moved, between which addresses, with what team and how the price is worked out. If it only shows a number, you cannot compare it with anything.

Check that it shows:

  • Origin and destination addresses, with the floor and whether there is a lift at each.
  • A furniture list and an approximate number of boxes, or a reference to the photos you sent.
  • The team: van with driver and how many movers.
  • How it is charged: by the hour, by the kilometre on long routes, or a total amount — and what happens if the job runs longer.
  • Extra work: dismantling and assembling furniture, packing, materials.
  • IVA: whether the price includes it or it is added later.

For a price reference before you ask for quotes, see how much a move in Valencia costs and the price calculator on the website. If you are not sure how many hours and movers to ask for, how long a move takes and how many movers you need has a table by home size.

Who will actually do the move?

Always ask for the name or business name and the tax ID (NIF) of whoever will do the transport. That is the person or company arriving with the vehicle and, usually, the one issuing the invoice.

In the moving trade it is common for the person you talk to not to be the one driving: many companies subcontract vans or crews in the busy season. That is not a problem in itself, as long as you are told beforehand. What is worth knowing:

  • Who is coming: the crew’s contact and, if possible, the number plate or type of vehicle.
  • Their tax details: business name or full name and NIF.
  • Transport authorisation: depending on the vehicle and the type of service, carrying goods for hire in Spain requires an official authorisation. You can ask whether they have it.
  • Who answers to you if there is a delay or damage, and how to reach that person on the day.

Will you get an invoice with IVA?

Yes — there should be an invoice, with IVA shown. The invoice protects you if you need to make a claim and proves what service was booked, at what price and with whom.

If someone offers a discount for paying “without an invoice”, think about what happens if things go wrong: you will have no document saying who did the work. For moves organised by MoveValencia, the invoice with IVA is issued by the partner carrier that does the job, and the published approximate rates already include IVA.

What insurance does the moving company have?

Ask what insurance whoever does the transport has, what it covers and up to what limits, and ask for it in writing if you are moving valuables.

There is no single answer: cover varies between companies, and each policy has its own conditions and exclusions. In practice:

  • Photograph furniture and fragile items before packing them.
  • If you are moving artwork, instruments, expensive equipment or antiques, consider taking out an additional policy yourself for those items.
  • When the job is done, check your things before the team leaves and note any damage on the spot, with photos.

When and how do you pay for a move?

The safest option for you is to pay once the work is done and you have checked your belongings. With MoveValencia you pay when the move is finished, in cash or by bank transfer, with no advance payment or deposit.

Some companies ask for a deposit to hold the date. That does not make them unreliable, but the amount should be small, appear in the written quote and be paid into an account in the name of the company that invoices you.

What are the red flags when hiring movers?

If you see two or more of these together, compare with another option before deciding:

  1. They want the full amount before starting, or a large deposit with no written quote.
  2. Cash only and no invoice.
  3. No business name or tax ID anywhere: not on the website, the quote or the messages.
  4. The price is far below everyone else’s and nobody explains why. It tends to come back later as “extras”.
  5. They ask you nothing: no floor, no lift, no furniture list. Without that, nobody can price a move.
  6. The terms change on the day: more hours, more movers or carrying to the floor that were not in the quote and that nobody checked with you first.

How does MoveValencia work?

MoveValencia follows your order from start to finish. Step by step:

  1. You message us on WhatsApp, Telegram, the form or by phone, or talk to Emilia, the virtual assistant on the website. Tell us what needs moving, where from, where to, floors and lift.
  2. We choose the right vehicle and team for your move.
  3. We give you a quote before the job starts. Reference rates are approximate: van with driver 55 €/h (2-hour minimum, from 110 €) and 20 €/h per mover. For long distances, 2,65 €/km for the one-way distance, IVA included.
  4. You know who is coming, and the driver knows the details of the order.
  5. You pay when it’s done, in cash or by bank transfer. The invoice with IVA is issued by the partner carrier that does the job.

How do you compare two moving quotes?

Compare what each one includes, not just the final figure. A cheaper quote that leaves out carrying to the floor or dismantling the wardrobe can end up costing more.

What to compareQuote AQuote B
Estimated hours and teamHow many, with how many movers?
Carrying to the floor without a liftIncluded or extra?
Dismantling and assemblyWhich furniture?
Packing materialsIncluded, extra or yours?
IVAIncluded?
PaymentWhen done, or with a deposit?
Who does the transportName and NIF?

To keep the comparison fair, send everyone the same information: both addresses, floors, whether there is a lift, the furniture list and a few photos of each room. With those same details we can prepare the quote for your flat move in Valencia.

Questions on this topic

Ask for a written quote that lists what is included, the business name and tax ID (NIF) of whoever will do the job, and whether they issue an invoice with IVA. Be wary if there are no tax details, everything happens by phone, or you are asked to pay the full amount before work starts. A serious company answers all of this plainly.
As an approximate guide, with a van at 55 €/h (2-hour minimum) and movers at 20 €/h each, a studio costs around 130–195 €, a 2-bedroom flat 300–450 € and a 3-bedroom flat 570–760 €. The exact amount comes in the quote, based on floors, lift and volume.
Some companies ask for one, but it is not the only way to work. If they want a large share of the price before you have seen a written quote, or the full amount upfront, stop and compare. With MoveValencia you pay only once the job is finished, in cash or by bank transfer.
MoveValencia takes your request, gives you a quote and follows the order to the end. With any company, what matters is knowing in advance who will turn up and who issues the invoice.
Two or three are enough, as long as they all start from the same information: addresses, floors, lift, furniture list and photos. If each company gets different details, the prices cannot be compared. Compare what each one includes, how extra hours are charged and when you pay, not just the bottom line.
